Process Service is more than just delivering a paper. The process server not only has to know the laws relating to their business, but also how to legally serve someone who may not want to be served, or has been served so many times they are savvy to the process.

| Why a Professional Process Server Rather Than a "Delivery Person" or Deputy? RTI has proven tenacity and is not intimidated by the tough serves. A private process server adds the discretion needed to get the job done. How many of your tough serves will go to the door if they see a badge? The more experienced process server will go morning, noon or night, whenever the subject is more likely to be home; stand at the door where they cannot be seen out the peephole or the front window, requiring the resident to open the door to see who it is. If all else has fails, and it is suspected the servee is avoiding service, it is legitimate for us to arrive carrying a pizza box, flowers, or wearing a delivery uniform carrying a plain brown package in order to get the door open. Under Missouri law 575.160, it is a misdemeanor for someone to assist a servee to avoid service, and RSMo 575.170 requires an employer to make that employee available for service. It is this knowledge and tenacity that makes using RTI more valuable than a law clerk, or other "delivery person". |
There are a lot of people who think process serving is easy extra income. It is that attitude the not only does a disservice to the industry, but also to the attorney and pro se clients. If you have difficulty reaching an advertised process server, chances are they have another job during the day and treat process serving as extra income. Guidelines for all Serves Provide a physical address, not a mailing address (e.g., PO Box XXX, or Rural Route XX). If that is all you have, skiptracing will be required. If you are aware of any potential dangers with the serve, advise us.
